Bonanzaville USA
Bonanzaville has been an educational, enjoyable stop for over 30 years. We are an historic village of over 40 buildings depicting life in the Red River Valley in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Our guests travel back to the time when our bonanza farm homes dotted the wheat-blanketed plains and our general store was spilling over with merchandise. The tour includes authentic log cabins, church, schoolhouse, train depot, and bonanza farm mansion. Each building is filled with period furnishings and artifacts. In addition Bonanzaville features a main museum housing Native American artifacts, dolls, world war memorabilia and much more. Also vintage automobile, tractor and airplane museums are a part of the village. We truly have something for everyone! More about Bonanzaville USA

Theodore Roosevelt National Park is a wonderful place to camp and spend a few days. The campground in the south unit of the park is right along the Little Missouri river, sheltered with giant cottonwood trees.
There is a drive through the south unit with pull-offs to see the many geological formations of the badlands. There are trails for hiking and horse back ridings.
It was a great experience we would recommend to anyone. We heard coyotes calling out at night. Bison wandered though out campground at one point. There are many birds, and beautiful badlands scenery.
Medora, the city at the entrance to the south unit, is fun place to visit as well, with a great western bookstore, ice cream, playgrounds for kids, and the famous Medora Musical at night.
Today, thousands of visitors come to see the oak-lined streets, historic homes, parks, gardens, churches, galleries, and antiques shops. The historic district encompasses most of the town and was recognized by the Department of the Interior as one of the finest such districts in the South.

The historic city of Medora is a restored cow town founded by a French nobleman, the Marquis de Mores, in 1883. The most popular attraction in North Dakota, the city still offers a lot of Western flavor; stroll its streets and soak up the atmosphere, then go see the Medora Musical, an entertaining and patriotic Broadway-quality musical extravaganza about Roosevelt and the Wild West. Château De Mores State Historic Site, on the southwestern edge of Medora, is a 26-room two-story frame building that was built in 1883 as the summer residence of the Marquis de Mores family. The château is now a historic house museum. The historic von Hoffman House, on the National Register of Historic Places, is home to the Medora Doll House, which features unique exhibits of antique dolls and toys.

Bonanzaville exceeded our expectations by far! There is so much to see. There is something interesting for everyone! Grandpa and grandma will love the nostalgia of the antiques. Yet there is enough cool stuff for kids to love also. This is not just a museum. This is like an old fashioned town that you can explore on your own. It has a hotel, creamery, church, jail, barbershop, fire station, mansion, farmhouse, general store, sod house, a law enforcement musuem, and a phone museum with really cool interactive old phone systems. Plus, large buildings housing many planes, tractors, vintage automobiles, a train and the world's largest bulldozer! Not everything is roped off. You can go on the train and one of the planes. I don't want to neglect to mention the indoor musuem area with hundreds of Native American artifacts, period clothing, antique items, even Barbie dolls! There are many things I am forgetting. After spending 5 hours in one day there last year, I could easily go back again.
If you are near Fargo and have any interest at all in the way things were in " the good old days " you have to see it!

North Dakota
One trip to North Dakota and you'll understand why it's known as the friendliest and safest state to visit. In fact, from agricultural products to quality of life - North Dakota is often at the top of the charts.
On March 2, 1861, President James Buchanan signed the bill creating the Dakota Territory, which originally included the area covered today by both Dakotas as well as Montana and Wyoming. The name was taken from that of the Dakota or Sioux Indian Tribe. Beginning in 1877, efforts were made to bring Dakota into the Union as both a single state and as two states. The latter was successful and on November 2, 1889, both North and South Dakota were admitted. President Benjamin Harrison went to great lengths to obscure the order in which the statehood proclamations were signed, so the exact order in which the two states entered is unknown. However, because of alphabetical position, North Dakota is often considered the 39th state.

Maah Daah Hey Trail
The trail name, "Maah Daah Hey", comes from the Mandan Indians. In the Mandan language, one word or phrase can describe a picture, feeling, or situation. In this case, the phrase means "an area that has been or will be around for a long time." The trail uses a turtle as the trail marker. The turtle was honored because of its firm determination, steadfastness, patience, long life, and fortitude.

Theodore Roosevelt National Park
Scenic splendor in the savagely beautiful North Dakota Badlands, the Theodore Roosevelt National Park is named for the 26th President of the United States. The former president first came to the badlands in September 1883 on a hunting trip. He became involved in the cattle business and returned the next year to establish the Elkhorn Ranch. After years of experience in North Dakota he said: "I never would have been President if it had not been for my experiences in North Dakota."
The beautiful national park has three units, all offering distinctly different views.
